Ladies and Gentleman of the Class of 2021… WEAR SUNSCREEN
Did I just date myself there? That is the opening line of the Baz Luhrman hit song in 1999, affectionately known as “Wear Sunscreen” that held advice for graduates about how to be happy and successful in life. If you want to rewind 20 years (or if you have no idea what I’m talking about), take a listen below. I love that more than 20 years later, this advice is still so relevant for today’s graduating class of 2021.
One of my favourite parts goes “Enjoy the power and beauty of your youth; or never mind. You will not understand the power and beauty of your youth until they have faded. But trust me, in 20 years you’ll look back at photos of yourself and recall in a way you can’t grasp now how much possibility lay before you and how fabulous you really looked.” TRUTH.
It’s June and the second group of students are graduating from high school during a pandemic. A time that is traditionally filled with joyous celebrations has been relegated to online streaming ceremonies, absent of the usual hugs and high fives. It makes me sad for these grads, being stripped of their moment, the culmination of 13 years of schooling finished off without much fanfare.

WHY BOOK A PORTRAIT SESSION FOR YOUR GRADUATE?
One way to celebrate your graduating teen is to treat them to a portrait session, to honour their school years and create lasting memories that they will keep forever. Plus it might be the only time they will agree to have their portrait taken!
High school senior portrait sessions don’t have to just be in their grad dress or tux. They can be relaxed and casual, in studio or outdoors, by themselves, or with friends and family. I love incorporating any extra curriculars that made their school years special. Is your teen into dance, hockey, music or art? We can honour their journey by including props or through outfits and posing. These portraits are about capturing them on the cusp of adulthood. It is such a special time that deserves to be captured and remembered.
Albums are a perfect way to preserve these memories of your graduate and can be customized to include their name and Class of 2021. It’s something they can keep and show off to their kids in 20 years. The 8×8 legacy book is a favourite for high school seniors as the box can be customized with the graduate’s name and year.

It’s not too late to book a portrait session to celebrate your new graduate! The Class of 2021 absolutely deserve something a little special after the year they’ve been through. The first step is to book a quick consultation, contact me and we can chat about your grad!
